$10,000 bond set for Ashtabula bomb bank robbery suspect

ASHTABULA – A 56 year old Ashtabula man accused in a bomb threat and bank robbery was arraigned in Municipal Court Wednesday. Thomas J. Wortman, 56, faces felony robbery and misdemeanor charges of petty theft following Monday’s robbery at the FirstMerit Bank on Lake Ave., in which Wortman allegedly told a teller he had a bomb, before getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was arrested soon after near the McDonald’s on Lake Avenue. Bond was set at $10,000, according to court records. The incident remains under investigation.
